Jake Shimabukuro Teaches Ukulele Master Class

Jake Shimabukuro Teaches Ukulele Master Class For “On the Music Path” iPad App

Ukulele maestro Jake Shimabukuro is the latest musician to teach a master class for the best-selling iPad app, “On the Music Path." In his 70 minute lesson, Shimabukuro teaches several songs, including stunning solo arrangements of “Amazing Grace” and “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and a duet version of his original composition, "Pianoforte."

Shimabukuro starts by introducing students to the very basics of playing the ukulele (e.g., how to hold and tune a ukulele, how to strum simple chords) and then gradually works up to more and more advanced techniques, making this a lesson that will appeal to everyone from novice to advanced musicians. This is Shimabukuro’s first full-length instructional video in over a decade.

The “On the Music Path” iPad app offers lessons on a variety of instruments taught by world-renowned musicians including Jackson Browne, Richard Thompson, Eric Johnson, Lee Ritenour, Michael Chapdelaine, Leland Sklar, and Ravi Shankar.

Each lesson includes 45-90 minutes of on-screen time with a master musician shot in high-definition video and accompanied by complete notation, tablature and chord charts synchronized to the teacher’s playing. On the Music Path is available exclusively through Apple’s App Store.  Students can download the app and the first few chapters of any lesson for free (including the first 5 chapters of Shimabukuro’s lesson).

Hiking Advice in Hawaii, Stay on the Trail

If you are hiking in Hawaii, here is some advice.

One of the easiest ways that you can go about finding a great hiking trail to hike is by asking those that you know for recommendations.  Asking those that you know for recommendations is nice and easy because it limits the amount of research that you have to do yourself.  If you know of anyone, like a friend, family member, neighbor, or coworker, who enjoys hiking, you may want to see if they can recommend any good hiking trails to you.  You will want to try and find hiking trails that are well maintained, cheap to hike, as well safe.

Another way that you can go about finding a great hiking trail to hike is by contacting any of your local hiking trails or hiking parks.  If you are looking to hike locally, you should be able to find the contact information of local hiking trials or hiking parks by using your local phone book. By contacting some of your local hiking parks or hiking trails, you may be able to get information on the trials in question.  In addition to getting information over the phone, you may also be able to request that you have a few brochures, like maps, mailed to your home.  If you live close enough to the hiking trail or park that you would like more information on, you may want to think about stopping by to get the same information in person.

Surfing the Giants at Jaws: 68 Foot Monster

Jaws located on Maui, is one of the most dangerous surfing locations in the world. This kind of surfng is not for everyone. Professional surfers know they are taking their life in their hands when they attempt to surf these giants.

The waves are so massive that the only way to catch them is by being towed by a jet ski or by being brought out to the surf spot by a helicopter.

Tow-In surfer Dan Moore talks about Oahu’s legendary North Shore and how he surfed a monster 68-foot wave at Peahi (Jaws) on Maui.

He explains Jaws was "like a monster chasing me down. The power and the energy there is nothing like it…"

Dan also states" it’s a humbling experience. You almost feel as if you’ve cheated death a bit. The modern surfers of today owe a big debt to the surfers of the past."

If you are ready to start surfing, you may want to start out with one of these surfbosrds:

A reviewer said: "This is it, the definitive story of surfing, surfers and beach culture.
It’s a big thick textbook like collection of information, photos, stories and anecdotes.
Warshaw has set the bar so high with this work, I doubt anyone will ever have the balls to approach the subject again…."
